Felt ideas anyone???

DING-DONG-DANG!!!

I bet you won't believe what I've inherited....a bunch of felt!!!
While this is no big deal for an "ordinary" person---to a teacher---it's like Christmas!

Just look at my pile! And look at these awesome colors! I'm just so in love with that teal blue one!
What makes this even better is that it was all FREE!!!

Now, what to do with it all?!?!?
I have plans to make a big felt board (this summer I invested in felt pieces for a few songs) and these pieces will work perfectly because they are so big when they are unfolded.

But what else can I do with all this felt? What have you other talented teachers done with felt?
(I have even more available to me that isn't pictured here---I know, you're jealous right???)

Give me your best ideas of how to best utilize all of this goodness!

  1. You can use your school die cut machine and cut multiples of the same image. For example you can cut 5 frogs and do the 5 little speckled frog song. I cut out lots of little fish and I use them for an addition/ subtraction station. I have a little fishbowl that the kids use to put the fish in and out. You can cut multiples of anything and use them as math manipulatives.

  2. I made a set of alphabet letters to hang up one year-they came out really cute. Or maybe for the kids to use in a self-portrait-they love to "design" their clothes.

  3. I use them for math mats (to roll the dice on). I just saw on another blog that they glued some into the bottom of a basket for the dice. Neat idea! I also cut 4 inch squares and we use them to erase our dry erase boards. You could make a pillow with some for your chair. You can cut out a rainbow and some color words for them to match. Have fun!

  4. Check out the dollar bins at Target...well actually $2.50. They have these primary color trays/tubs that we use for everything. They are approximately 2 inches deep and and 9x12 inches. We put felt in the bottom of these to cut down on noise of dice or other manipulatives. I also use these trays as mini sensory tubs for independent work. For instance, in the spring I pull out items from the sensory table...plastic frogs, plastic plants, small terra cotta pots, rocks, etc. and place them in four or five of these trays. I put felt in the bottom of the trays. (I also use the felt to cut up little mud puddles and ponds for imaginary play.) Also, we use felt to give a tactile element to our books...ladybugs, apples, etc. Enjoy!
