We had a very pretty penguin kind of day!!
I read three books to my kiddos about penguins. Here they are:
I followed that up by having them make cute little penguins!! I saw the idea a while back somewhere on the internet and I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it at originally. I think I will have them write about penguins in the coming days during our journal time!
Any-who, I made the penguin parts by hand from memory. I then traced them onto construction paper and had the kids cut them out. Boy did I get glimpse of who still needs to work on those fine motor skills!! After the kids cut them, I had them assemble and glue them together.
I think they turned out really cute!!
Here are the kids working very hard:
Here are their end products and our cute hall display!!
We got so many compliments already today!
I know the parents will love them too when they see them soon!!
Love it Elizabeth!! Great idea! :0)

Thank you!!
DeleteThose are adorable! And I love the book the Penguin Who Wanted to Fly--one of my fave penguin books. If you are able to, you need to check out the penguin webcams at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Sea World San Diego. My kiddos love it!

I didn't know anything about the web cams! I will show my class tomorrow!! They will LOVE it!! Thanks for letting me know!
DeleteI did this same activity with my pre-k class this week. It takes a couple of days per kid because I have them trace and cut out both body parts and the head in addition to the hand prints. We also have them write their name and glue it like the penguin is holding a name card. They always look so cute when we are finished with them. I like your beaks we just used orange foam and let kids make whatever shape they wanted. I really work hard with my kiddos on their fine motor skills to hopefully make it easier for their future kindergarten teachers.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea on having them trace the outlines too--I might try that next time!! Thanks!
DeleteI love this idea. We have a week of Penguins planned for LA (first graders) and I want to use this idea along with our writing. Thank you!
